Week 1: God Is Calling You
Week 2: Don’t Pursue Your Passion, Pursue God’s Plan

It’s easy to get my heart fixed on a goal, a desire…a big dream. I plan, prepare, learn, and do all I can to reach the destination of the ultimate place of success.

For me, it’s a desire to help people who hurt – the ones who feel like they don’t have a place to voice their pain. It’s to embrace the reality of this life with gentleness that will break down the walls that harm our hearts. It’s a big dream. It seems insurmountable. But it’s my calling. And it’s clear.

When I embrace it in it’s entirety, it’s impossible. There’s no way to abolish pain. There’s no immediate fix for the fear that saturates the wounds of those who have been harmed over and over again.

But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26(ESV)

God is helping me as I embrace my calling. He’s reminding me to stop controlling the bigness of what I think it is, and He’s telling me to do the right thing today.

For me, some days it means putting a band-aid on a skinned knee, kissing a sweaty forehead, and looking deep into the eyes of a child who is learning to walk through this life and figure out where they fit.

It’s pouring my soul into the little hearts in my home who desperately need a mama to say, “I’m proud of you, I see you, and I will always love you no matter what your life looks like.” Most days, it’s simply giving the gift of a smile to the crew under my roof and genuinely being kind to them even on my bad days.

It’s about letting Jesus shine through in the difficult moments, and pointing lives to Jesus even when circumstances force us to our knees – this is where my calling is.

It’s writing one more blog post and putting it out into the world wide web not knowing who will read it or who’s heart will be hugged by a simple, “You are gonna make it through this.”

It’s being pleasant when my husband walks in the door and praying desperately that God would help me be the best version of me.

It’s calling a friend, sending a text, and being sensitive to the lives God has purposely placed in my circle of life.

Big calls completed are never achieved overnight with enormous leaps of success. Big calls require teeny tiny steps of obedience one day at a time.

As I learn to clarify my calling, I’m learning the beauty of the mundane. Miracles happen in remaining faithful to the mundane masterpiece of today. God is doing something. He has called us. He is working.

Take the next tiny step.

Kiss your husband passionately.

Look into your child’s eyes purposefully.

Talk to a friend compassionately.

Live your life purposefully.

Embrace God’s Word presently.

This is where you will clarify your calling.

Goals are good, but they are not where greatness resides. Greatness resides in what you do in this moment with the calling God has etched upon your soul.

What is your tiny step today?

Are you willing to take the next step even if it seems insignificant?

My tiny step is pushing “post” on this blog. I hope you will share it with someone you love. You never know the difference your tiny step will make.

Dear Heavenly Father,

As we learn to take little steps of obedience, please guide us with your Word. Show us where to focus, when to move, and when to embrace the smallest actions steps. We know you are calling and we commit to listen intently. We choose to embrace obedience even when it seems too simple, too small, or insignificant. We know the glory is yours in every goal and in every call. As we seek clarity in our callings, give us eyes for your purpose and your purpose only.

In Jesus Name,
Amen.

Love & Blessings,

Micah

Here is where I am sharing this post this week.

  1. Wow, you’ve certainly captured the essence of my week with this post, Micah. And that fluttering of the heart before we click on “post” is always there.
    Blessings to you!

    1. Michele, I know that fluttering heart too well. I think I’ve finally stopped breaking out in hives before I “post” haha! God is good and He uses us in spite of us. I’m so thankful for that!

    1. Margaret, Thank you. Isn’t it wonderful that God isn’t out to disappoint or condemn. He is in the saving, loving, and forgiving business and I’m so thankful. All for His purpose! Seeking Him with you this week!

  2. Thanks for sharing, Micah! You’re motivation to fulfill God’s call is inspiring and encouraging. I pray the Lord uses it for His great glory!

    Be Blessed,
    Patty

  3. Definitely value taking that next small step, however tiny, as that’s how we can move forward and be our best selves. :)

    1. Yes! We do have all we need in Him. I love the verse in Psalm 23 – “The Lord is my Shepherd, I lack nothing!”

  4. This is such an encouragement! Love week 3! Being faithful in the little moments help us to realize there really isn’t anything ordinary or mundane about serving one another in love. Visiting from #mommymoments :)

    1. I’m so glad you love week 3, Angela. I think it’s probably the hardest one to really settle into. It’s easier to dream, wish, and want. It’s harder to be content right in the middle of everything. I’m learning one day at a time…

  5. Yes! I love this – one step at a time. I sometimes forget to look at the small details, leading me to the bigger picture. But God is calling me more and more to walk in the daily with Him!
    Blessings!

    1. Day by day…right! It’s hard, but so beautiful! God is calling me more and more to the same thing! So good to see you here, Sarah!

  6. “Tiny Steps.” – this is such a great reminder to not let ourselves get googly-eyed with our calling, but instead to focus on today alone! “When I embrace it in it’s entirety, it’s impossible.” So true, and for me, focusing on the end, rather than the now causes me to miss those daily moments of ministry God lays before me. Thank you for this encouragement, friend! Big hugs to you!

    1. I love the way you put it, “googly-eyed”. Isn’t it crazy how we get. Keeping things in focus is hard, but I’m learning little by little. Hugs!!!

  7. Micah- I dislike the small sometimes. I want big, but am I really ready for the big? I have to trust Gd knows better. I have to remember my role as a mom and wife are Kingdom-worthy.
Going to check out the weeks 1 & 2.

    1. I like big too! God continues to push me toward the tiny, but I’m learning that those tiny things are the Kingdom things. So glad to see you here! Thanks for stopping in!

  8. Great encouragement, thank you! I especially loved this: Big calls require teeny tiny steps of obedience one day at a time. Sometimes I think we get hung up on being “great” and finding our one true purpose, but I believe it’s a multitude of little things in the way we live our lives that actually IS our purpose.

  9. This series is grounding me and giving me a lift in a God-only way, Micah. This week I’ll be thinking about and holding to this: “Big calls completed are never achieved overnight with enormous leaps of success. Big calls require teeny tiny steps of obedience one day at a time.”

    Thank you!

    1. I’m so happy to hear that this series is encouraging you! I love it when you visit and give me your feedback! Hope to see you again next week!

  10. Something about this makes me think not only of practicing my vocation with my family, but also with myself. Thanks for sharing this series!

  11. I agree sometimes its hard to do what is right in front of you and do it well. Because we feel like we could be doing something else that is much more glamorous. We have to remember that everything we do we do it to glorify the Lord. No matter how big or small it all is done for the kingdom.

    1. Tona, so true! There are so many things that seem so glamorous, but truly the most glamorous thing is what God is calling us to do even it’s seems tiny. One day we will see clearly and all the glamour of this world will fade away.

  12. Beautiful insights here and so important to remember our calling starts with our family. Thanks for linking up with #JesusandCoffee this week. Hope to see you next Wednesday!

    1. Hey Jennifer! We met briefly at She Speaks! I’m so happy to have found your linkup! Thanks for dropping in! I hope to see you next week too!

  13. Thank you for joining the link up! I am so glad I had the honor of reading your post, (and posting after you!) I need to be reminded constantly that obedience can be found in the little things, and it is the series of small steps that make up the seemly one big step! I love your site also, it is super uplifting, blessings!
