And now for WEEK 5: What Will They Think of Me?

I let her words play over and over in my mind. “You are too young to do that.” I began thinking maybe I was too young. Maybe I didn’t have enough experience, knowledge, or wisdom to fulfill the thing God had placed before me.

There I hung in the middle of a deep cavern of decision. I had a choice to accept her words as truth or to accept God’s words as truth.

Haven’t we all been there. We want to believe with all of our hearts that God’s call on our lives is firm, secure, rooted, grounded, and sure. We want to know that no matter the opposition we face, God will sustain us and be an advocate on our behalf.

It’s hard to continue pressing on when people around you don’t understand your calling.

Here’s what God did for me as I dangled between what I know He said, and what was said to me:

1. God confirmed His word.

Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it. I Thessalonians 5:24(KJV)

2. God comforted my heart.

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20(ESV)

3. God considered me, and proved His love to me.

Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. I Timothy 4:12(ESV)

4. God told me to press on despite approval or disapproval of those around me.

Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. Psalm 37:5(KJV)

Sometimes your greatest opposition will come from good people. Sometimes it comes in forms of constructive criticism or a word spoken without thought behind it.

Don’t let the words of man distract you from the ways of God.

If God has called you, take Him at His word. Cling to it. Claim it. When opposition comes your way cast it aside and press on. God’s call is too important to let the words of humans harm it.

Is God clarifying His call in your life? Has He called you to do something that people around you can’t understand? It’s okay. Do it anyway.

God’s ways always results in wonder to those walking in obedience and those who are watching in opposition.

Love & Blessings,

Micah

  1. It takes courage to “set my face like a flint” in spite of the fact that I may be swimming against the current. I so appreciate this en-COURAGE-ment to walk in line with the truth that has been revealed.

    1. You put that so beautifully, Michele! What a joy to wake up to such a lovely encouragement! Thank you so much! I pray someone is touched by the way you so eloquently encapsulated this. You encourage me! Thank you!

  2. This was a bit of confirmation for me today, Micah! Thanks again. I’m so grateful for this series and for the Lord’s leading in your life- and your choice to follow His cal!!

  3. Love love love how you clobber those thoughts with straight up scripture! Don’t allow discouragement to slow you down one single bit. You are a gifted woman. So glad to catch up with you this week from SS:). Also, the way that you use series conversations is fantastic!

  4. Our pastor started a series on Joseph entitled Dream to Destiny. Your post fits so well with the gist of this series. We will meet opposition when following God’s plan for our lives. I appreciate the affirmations you share with us here. You offer encouragement to follow God, even in the hard places. Visiting from #intentionaltuesday.

    1. I love Joseph! Such a beautiful story of how God uses the hard stuff for good. And so much more! So cool that your pastor is teaching a series on it right now! Thanks so much for dropping in, Kelly!

  5. Micah, I’m glad that you were able to combat that short-sighted comment with the truth of scripture. This is something I really strive to do with my girls … I don’t ever want them to think they are too young to serve in any way. And it is such a joy to watch them use their gifts in ways that I never would have dreamed of doing when I was a child or teenager. Visiting from Purposeful Faith.

  6. “Too young” is something I’ve been told often in many different ways, and yet God’s call is clear and true. Thanks for linking!

  7. So encouraging! I like that you warn that sometimes our greatest opposition comes from good people. From church people, even. That can be a bitter pill to swallow and such good reason to be certain and clear about what God say! Blessings!

  8. Thank you for sharing. I found myself in the same situation when I was younger. Sadly, I listened to the voices other than God’s. My story ends well, because God truly does restore the years. At 43 I completed bible college and now attempt to boldly follow His leading and call every day.
Visiting from “From Messes to Messages” today.

  9. Very nice post. I appreciate very much the admonition to follow God’s plan and not man’s. Perhaps this, ‘clarify your calling’ topic is something we can discuss on the radio show. If you’re available sometime in mid-late September through early October, we can do a telephone interview to broadcast. Email me and lets talk! God bless :)

  10. It’s easy to let the audible words we hear discourage that still small voice. Thanks for reminding us to stay focused on the One who calls us. Glad to be your neighbor at Suzie’s today
