The Truth Behind My Book

The Truth Behind My Book

There’s always something mysterious about a new book. It’s easy to read it at face value and accept the words as they are, but after writing a book, I’m learning there is so much more than meets the eye.

When I first set out to write Anchored In, I had a book in my mind and heart that would be for women who are hurting. It would reach beyond the physical into the hearts of women that know the sting of deep struggle.

This came as a result of my own sting of abandonment, betrayal, and the reality of living a life that felt out of my control. To give it a label, I felt powerless.

In this vulnerable place, I found something I knew God would make me share with others: not because He reserved the favor of His hand for only me, but because He proved to me that even the least of us can access the most of Him.

As I leaned into the words He gave me, I experienced a gift that I can’t help but share with you!

It’s the gift of God’s presence.

It’s something we all have access to, but few of us truly understand the reality of living a life of power in His presence. For some it’s just too religious, too mystical, or too unknown. For others it’s too complicated, too much work, or seems fabricated or fake. For others, it’s just that life is hard and God’s blessings seem reserved for everyone else except us.

Too often we let the problems of our lives fill us with worry, anxiety, fear, failure, and frustration. Rather than resting in the power of God, we wrestle in the presence of our problems and don’t know any other way to deal with it all.

Problems have a way of parading to the center of our minds causing us to ponder everything that has happened to us, or causing us to live beneath the pressure of what might happen tomorrow.

Living a power-full life isn’t about what has happened in the past or what is happening today, it’s about letting God fill every part of life. That means, my past, I give to Him. My present, I live for Him. And my future, I release to Him.

It sounds so nice when we sum it up in a sentence, doesn’t it?

But reality is much harsher and harder to define.

As I wrestled through my own issues, I found what we are all looking for. That’s why I’m sharing this book with you. It’s not because I think I have lots of good things to say, but it’s because God has said so many amazing things to me, I want you to have the same experience.

I know many of you reading this have your own stories of God doing the miraculous, but I find there are times I forget about those God moments in my own life. I revert back to a tear-soaked pillow and I gaze at my problems like an old worn-out pair of jeans. I know they don’t fit right. I know they aren’t going to meet my need. I know they are faded. But for some reason I keep holding onto them. I even try to wear them and make them work.

God is challenging me to let go even when it feels uncomfortable, impossible, or terrifying.

As I finally share Anchored In with you, I am walking the message I wrote in the book all over again. Many of you know we are in the midst of fostering a precious little boy. Every day I give and love and meet his simple needs. I kiss boo-boos. I open juice boxes. I rock him to sleep. I sing ABC’s and count and sing and sing some more. And then I lay down at night and I think of his little life. And my heart aches inside. I hurt for him, for his parents, for his family members.

He knows too well what it means to feel powerless, doesn’t he?

Everything he knows changed overnight. And here we are trying to put the pieces together. It’s a complicated life. But it’s beautiful.

The one thing that makes me feel the most powerless right now, is actually filling me with God’s power every day. It’s draining and it’s exhausting, but it’s divine. And I’ll share more about what I mean with you in my new book.

  1. I’m so excited to read your book! It’s interesting that God had showed me at the beginning of the year that He wanted me to learn about joy. And this is the year of much heartache and change in my life, stuff that didn’t seem very joyful. I know your book will be an encouragement to many women.

  2. Micah – you are amazing! Thank you for sharing your journey of how you live out the message of your book every day! Blessings to you, sweet sister!

  3. Micah, this book has a message for each of us. It is only as we are anchored in Him that we will be able to journey through this life. May God give you all you need as love and tend to this little guy entrusted to you. Blessings!

  4. I find that I am in a strange season where right now God wants me to let go of the hidden hurts I hold inside. Only for as simple as that sounds I am finding it hard. I’m not exactly sure how to release stuff I didn’t know I was hiding from myself. It helps to see that others have walked the path before me and that they have come out the other side as I embrace this journey trying to figure out exactly how to release and let go so that I can walk the path God has for me.
