Turn down the noise and BE STILL

Be still.  A simple command that we begin teaching our children at an early age.  Sit down and be still.  This morning as I sat down in my comfy chair and leaned back on my perfectly plump pillow, I put my favorite coffee mug to my lips and I listened to myself inhale deeply.  Before I could exhale, my rare moment of peace and quiet was abruptly interrupted by a long, loud version of one of the most desired titles of womankind, “Moooooom!”  Although I love moments of stillness and quiet it seems everything in my world fights against it, even the things I love the most.  As I read Psalms 46:10, “Be still, and know that I am God,”  I am challenged to find that place of stillness, because it’s in that place that I will hear God.  Although it’s easy to go about my day running here and there, loving, doing, teaching, and challenging; today, I am challenged to stop running and to just be still.  It might seem like you need duct tape to accomplish silence in your house, or your own soundproof room that has only the sound of the ocean and the light of the sun coming through.  Ha!  But if we turn down the noise at the same time every day we will teach ourselves and our children the art of being quiet, the art of listening, and ultimately the art of being still.  If you have been wanting to hear from God, today’s the day.  Turn down the noise, be still, and listen.
