I cannot believe it is already November! Every year the school year seems to zoom by faster and faster and this time of year seems to slip away quicker than any other. I love the fall season and the excitement of gearing up toward Christmas, but more and more I am feeling the need to savor every single moment with my children.

God is reminding me how short our days on this earth really are. The things that make us school moms worry and fret and cry and pray are things that will not last forever. The friendships that our children struggle through, the games that they win and lose, the birthdays they are invited to or not invited to, these things will soon be in the past. The present time will take center stage and life will be a new season of grown up children who are bearing a new generation. I know it does not happen overnight, but more and more time is zipping by and it seems likes it is passing so quickly that I never get to completely grasp the precious littleness of my children.

This month as we pray for thankful hearts, I am intentionally focussing on the childlike things that bring joy and delight. I want to notice the questions they ask and the things that make them curious. I want to listen to their hearts and hear them express their likes and dislikes about their day. I want to know how they view God and what their little hearts and minds can comprehend about His love.

I want to show them that I care about the little things in their life, because I’m learning more and more those little things are actually really, really big.

My seven-year-old asked me why adults sometimes say the word “kids” and shake their heads. I’m not sure where she saw or heard that, but I want to make sure it’s not from me. I want my kids to know that they are a precious gift from God and that I won’t be shaking my head in disapproval over their mere presence, but that I will be calling out their names before Almighty God asking for His favor, His grace, His love and His mercy to be poured out all over their little lives. And while I’m there I will say, “Thank you for the precious, priceless gift of children.”

As we continue our School Year Prayers from a Mama’s Heart, I hope you will join me in thanking God for the little children in your life. They won’t be little for long and this life is too short to let precious moments slip away.

Love & Blessings,

Micah
