School Year Prayers from a Mama’s Heart – January

With every new beginning is the excitement of new possibilities, new opportunities, and a fresh start. As we pack lunches with our new way of clean eating, zip up the backpacks the night before because we are determined to make this year the year that mornings are not chaotic, and actually remember to put dinner in the crockpot before we walk out the door, let’s remember to sincerely pray for the hearts of the people under our roof.

There are lots of lists to prepare, charts to post and meal plans to execute, but all of these are useless if we forget to go before the Lord in prayer. Prayer is an eternal investment and the dividends are divine.

I’m one of those crazy people who start fresh every year with big goals and dreams. I decide to eat healthier, live simpler, and do better year after year. This year is the same as years gone by, except for one thing. This year I am intentionally focusing on one character quality to pray over my children each month. If you missed the previous months of this series, you can find them here:

This month I am praying for a renewed heart in each of my children. Here’s what I have found so amazing about this process – as I pray for each child, God so clearly convicts and transforms my heart. Yes, children might need a renewed heart, but what about mom? It is so easy to get so focused on parenting that I forget to personally focus on my own spiritual weaknesses. When I take the time to pray for my child’s heart, God tenderly convicts, transforms, and molds my own. What a beautiful measure of mercy God pours out in the midst of motherhood mayhem.
