Waiting for Flowers to Bloom

Amidst the palette of brown crispy branches there was one tree that had little green buds on every branch. I admired the tiny leaves that were beginning to take shape. It was a clear representation of new life after a cold, hard winter. I watched over the next few days and weeks as more and more buds began to appear.

As I think back on the one tree that stood out from the rest, I wonder what made it different from the others. It wasn’t the oldest tree or the biggest. It wasn’t the most beautiful and didn’t have the prettiest flowers, but it did bloom first.

What about us? Some people succeed early in life, while others wait a lifetime for simple success. Some people stand out in a crowd. Some look blessed beyond their wildest dreams. Some people seem to have everything so easy. Some lives seem full of big beautiful flowers.

It is easy to look around at the people in your life and see their green leaves of blessing and their flowers of success. It is easy to feel like you have been left behind as one of the crispy, dry, less fortunate branches. Your entire tree might feel like a complete log of loneliness. Looking ahead, you may not see much hope.

Let me encourage you today. Every tree that looked dry and crispy is now filled with beautiful new life. The season is in full swing and things are starting to change. The green leaves have overtaken the once dry and barren field.

What about you? Are you waiting for a change or a breakthrough? Are you longing for a little relief or an answer to a long-awaited desire? Maybe you question why there are no flowers and green leaves in your own life.

God has a purpose.

God has a plan.

The flowers that God has in mind for your life will not look like my flowers. My flowers will not look like yours. And no two flowers will bloom exactly alike.

While you wait for your flowers and watch for progress, keep soaking up the water. Let your roots sink in deep. Allow the sun to shine down on the dry, crispy limbs of your life. Rejoice when you see others successful blooms and celebrate when you hear of new life. And wait. Your turn is coming.

Be open.

Be willing.

When God begins to produce blossoms in your life it will be better than what you had in mind in the first place.

Let it be.

If your limbs are filled with amazing flowers and radiant colors, rejoice!

If your limbs are dry, cracking and feel like they might not survive the season, hold on!

Some blooms come in springtime, some in the summertime, and some have to wait until the fall or winter to grow. Whatever you do, wherever you are, don’t worry about the flowers. Seasons come and seasons go.

Just remember, God controls the seasons.

He hath made everything beautiful in His time. Ecclesiastes 3:11a

When it seems that the blessings in your own life are few, start counting your blessings every day. Your life might not be as dry and crispy as it seems. When you look for the good, you will find it.

Keep an eye out for tiny little blooms. Seasons always change.

What is one blessing in your current season of life?

Love & Blessings,

Micah

  7. Hi there, Micah, visiting from #RaRaLinkup. Thanks for bringing a bit of spring into my afternoon. You made me smile! One blessing in my life right now is the strong family life we have. Just a few short months until child #1 leaves for college It’ll be a new season, but I’m enjoying this one.

  8. Hi Micah! I’m your neighbor at #RaRa Linkup!
I love this word today, because I just spent three months just soaking up water, to use your imagery. I broke my leg in January, had to have surgery, and was unplugged from the world until recently. What a journey, and I wondered why God would want this to happen to me?
But I do think that He uses it all for good, and maybe my flowers will bloom soon? And if not, I’ll try to be patient and cheer for all the other trees :)
    Blessings,
    Ceil

  11. Thank you so much for this. It is exactly what I needed to hear today. I’m tearing up reading this because I feel so much like those dry, crispy, dead leaves. It’s hard to hold on to hope and to remember God’s promises during this season. I’m trying to cling to Him, but I think I fail more than I succeed. Anyway, thank you, thank you.

    1. Sweet Brooke, I have been dry and crispy many many times. I know that feeling of trying to hold on for dear life. Send me a private message if there’s a way I can pray for you more specifically. You are going to make it. And not just make it, but I’m sure pretty flowers are somewhere in Gods plan for you. Love & Blessings, Micah

  13. We are often weakened by our sense of instant gratification. We need to realize everything will come in God’s time and by His grace.
